Event Description:
The Assistance League® of Sierra Foothills is participating in Make a Difference Day – October 25; the largest day of national celebration of volunteerism. Assistance League Chapters throughout the nation are taking part in this annual event. In 2013, Assistance League collected over 103,000 books for distribution nationwide to hundreds of nonprofit agencies all dedicated to improving childhood and adult literacy. Assistance League of Sierra Foothills hopes to collect 2,000 new and, gently used books for children and adults. In leading up to Make a Difference Day - October 25th Assistance League is holding a Book Drive. Collection boxes for gently used or new book donations are now at the following locations: • Raley’s in El Dorado Hills • Face in a Book bookstore in El Dorado Hills Town Center • Trimark Associates, Inc. in Folsom • Safeway in Cameron Park • Raley’s in Placerville • El Dorado County Supervisor Ron Briggs Office, in Placerville Target in El Dorado Hills and Bel Air in Cameron Park are participating with bins for their store employees. Local organizations that have been selected to receive the books that are collected for Make a Difference Day - October 25 are: • M.O.R.E. ~ Mother Lode Rehabilitation Enterprise, Inc. • The Boys & Girls Club in Pollock Pines, Placerville and Georgetown • Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians • The Drug Free Divide Coalition (on the Georgetown Divide) • The Mother Teresa Maternity Home , Placerville The public can help by asking friends, families and book clubs to collect books and donate and by placing collection boxes in your businesses, schools and churches, then dropping off the books at one the listed locations. Assistance League of Sierra Foothills is partnering with Ferguson Enterprises in 52 of their stores throughout Northern CA and Reno, to collect books for the Book Drive. The Ferguson stores have collection boxes at their stores and are working with neighboring Assistance League Chapters.
