Event Description: Mudra Dances and the Hawkins School of Performing Arts in Folsom, Ca. will present “Dances of India - Tarang!” on May 4, 2013 at . The event will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to support the fight against childhood cancer and other severe diseases. Sacramento area residents will have the opportunity to experience the diversity of the valley while supporting the lifesaving mission of one of the world's premier pediatric cancer research centers. The event will showcase various regional dance forms of India. The dancers are children from the ages of 5 to 19 from the Hawkins School and include principal dancers of Ballet Folsom. The event is open to the public. Individuals and local businesses are encouraged to advertise in the event program. Contact mudradances@gmail.com. Sponsorships are also welcome. "We are excited to help raise awareness and funds to support the mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital," said Shash Roy, Mudradances Choreographer. The Event Coordinator, Jane Hughes feels that "Dances of India - Tarang!” will make a difference in helping the children of St. Jude. This is a unique event in which children are dancing to raise money for sick children. We’re sure the beautiful costumes and dance will be a delight for all ages." Since opening in 1962, St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and around the world. No child is ever denied treatment because of a family's inability to pay. With a daily operating cost of $1.8 million, St. Jude depends mostly on public contributions and fundraising events, like “Dances of India - Tarang!”. The Hawkins School of Performing Arts located at 118 Woodmere Road, Folsom, California, was founded by Deirdre Hawkins in 1987. She trained at the San Francisco Ballet School and holds a Master of Arts in Education with a Dance Specialization from Stanford University. She co-founded "Children's Dance at Stanford," a program for children of students and alumni. The Hawkins School of Performing Arts provides classes in classical ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, musical theatre dance and other forms of dance.
