Event Description: Assistance League® of Sierra Foothills presents Inside the Creative Mind-Author Forum, the first in their Creative Series, scheduled for October 10, 2013 at the Folsom Community Center. Sierra Foothill’s on-going creative series will highlight one aspect of the arts and each year feature the talents of well-known artists, musicians, actors, chefs and others that excel in their craft. Sierra Foothill’s goal is not only to help those in need El Dorado County but also to bring meaningful, cultural events to the community. At their first event, they will feature three New York Times Bestselling authors, James Rollins, John Lescroart and Allison Brennan, who will share their creative process and enjoy an afternoon of exploration, lunch, author presentations and book signing. An author panel will be moderated by Jeff Ayers, national book reviewer and critic. Sierra Foothills collaborates with local elementary schools to provide a program that supports children in their developing literacy skills and teaches them to enjoy reading. Choosing “authors” as their first creative endeavor just seemed natural. All proceeds fund their philanthropic programs, including their signature programs, Operation School Bell®, providing new school clothing for homeless and disadvantaged children. Sports Locker provides scholarships and equipment for youth interested in participating in organized sports but are unable to afford the cost. In 2012 their 80 volunteer members worked over 12,140 hours and raised over $122,479 for their communities through fundraising efforts, private donations, grants and membership dues. The Creative Series will be a vital funding component to Assistance League of Sierra Foothills annual Gardens of the Hills and Homes for the Holiday’s Tours. Earning funds to continue their work while helping to explore and share creative experiences is just one more way to strengthen their community and make a meaning difference.
