Event Description:
A one and only special evening “A Chocolate Affair” will celebrate the Valentine Season. The popular event will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 6:00pm in the main building at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds on Placerville Drive, Placerville, Ca. The two local clubs of Soroptimist International: Cameron Park/El Dorado Hills and Placerville will co-host the event, which benefits women, children, families, scholarships and grants. Dave Bender, Channel 13’s charming weatherman, will emcee. Attendees are treated to samplings of delicious foods from generous local restaurants, caterers, bakeries and chocolatiers. More than a dozen wineries will be pouring tastings of delectable El Dorado County wines. Local brewers will provide samples of their wares. All present will have the opportunity to bid at the silent as well as the live auction. One lucky bidder will garner a ride with Julie Clark, of Aviation’s Hall of Fame, in her T34 Beechcraft Free Spirit with which she has delighted air show attendees coast to coast from Canada to Bermuda. Julie says she will make the winner’s experience “all about you” and will accommodate the rider’s preference from “smooth and easy” to “barrel rolls and smoke over your house”. In addition, the prize will include an autographed coffee table book as a memento of the day. Passengers must be at least 18 yrs. old and arrange for the flight within 1 year of the auction. A unique Safari Diner will be auctioned that evening. The sit-down dinner, on an evening in March or April, will host 2 parties of 8 and will be held at a local residence that is Smithsonian-like in its indescribable display of wild taxidermy. Mike Inks, Culinary Chef of El Dorado High School ROP, is overseeing the plans for the four-course meal. Wines to complement the fare will be provided by Mira Flores winery Another great item to bid on is a collection of fine wines contained in wine barrels decorated by local artists. Chairpersons Tanya Moran, Placerville and Abigail Gessler, Cameron Park, comment “The community support is tremendous and there will be auction items for just about anyone along with a great selection of fine wines.” The two Soroptimist clubs raised over $28,000.00 at last year’s event. Proceeds are divided between the two clubs for distribution back into the community. Past contributions have included, Women’s Opportunity Award; for returning students, Ruby Award; for community service, Violet Richardson Award; for citizenship CASA, Center for Violence Free Relationships, Prom Boutique, Helping Hands Funds, Tech Trek scholarships, Because You’re Special, Show N Shine Fly-In, Rotary Park Improvements, Community Grant Award Program, scholarships for graduating seniors and other worthy community projects. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door, subject to availability. Tickets are at several locations throughout El Dorado County: Cameron Park: Cameron Park Health Foods, 3342 Coach Lane; Cameron Park Florist, 3300 Coach Lane #1A; Sierra Vista Bank 3311 Coach Lane, Shingle Springs/Cameron Park Chamber of Commerce 3300 Coach Lane #B7; El Dorado Hills: California Welcome Center at 2085 Vine St. # 105, Sandra D’s Fashion & Accessories 3941 Park Dr. # 60; Historic El Dorado: Hartwick House 6237 Pleasant Valley Road; Placerville: 49er Federal Credit Union 225 Placerville Dr.; River City Bank, 348 Main Street and the Paint Spot, 1303 Broadway; Diamond Springs: Windfall Classifieds, 624 Pleasant Valley Rd and Pollock Pines: Belle’s and Beau’s Salon, 6100 Pony Express Trail.
