Next summer, July 25-August 2, 2020 we will host 15 Japanese youths from our Sister City of Warabi, Japan. We are looking for youths, ages 13-17, to participate in the summit and to host a Japanese youth during the summit. The only cost for participants other than hosting (providing meals and accommodations) is that one member of the family needs to join our chapter of People to People - $40/year. Then in the summer of 2022, we will send 15-20 youths to Warabi, Japan who will be hosted by Japanese families and participate in exciting activities. Experience a unique culture! Established in November of 1849, the US Post Office in Coloma was first run by John Little, a business owner and entrepreneur in the area. Little was a reluctant postmaster who ultimately financed much of the operation out of his own pocket. In the early 20th century, Coloma had its first postmistress, Cora Price, who took over the role upon the death of her father. Learn more about these colorful characters during our lecture series at 2 p.m. Join docents on the lawn beside the millworker's cabin from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as they demonstrate what life was like during the California Gold Rush during Living History Day activities.
